Should I Let My Landscaper Use My Bathroom?

Sierra Crew 2018

Sierra crew building a natural swimming pool near Southhampton, NJ Circa 2018

Ok, let's talk about the pink elephant in the corner. The one question everyone has when implementing a natural landscaping backyard oasis, but no one ever asks. In fact this same topic has made us the laughing stock of the Sparta, NJ area. More on that later. It's one of those questions that you likely have, but could be embarrassed to ask. We will address it for you, hopefully allowing for more productive conversation about how life-changing your new outdoor living space, water feature, or landscape design will be.

Anyone who has ever had a landscape construction crew at their home for a period of time has dealt with this issue. It is very likely that one of these scenarios existed.

- The crew requests access to your home to use your bathroom leaving you to clean up after them.

- The crew leaves the site to find a close facility costing you precise billable hours.

- The unthinkable happens and your neighbor reports that they saw someone problem solving in the corner.

- You find a sports drink that they left behind, though you are not certain that the label is an accurate depiction of what's inside.

Am I off track to assume that it would be desirable to avoid these situations when possible?

Here is the thing. There is another way. I find most people are not aware of it, but portable restrooms are very easy to have delivered, serviced, and picked up. All you need to do is make the phone call to one of the many local service providers.

So now that we know there is a better solution, I have a question.

Is it worth $200 to you to ensure the undesirable situations don't happen? That is the approximate cost added to your project every month for this service. Does this investment help give you peace of mind that you have hired the right people? Does it free up space for you to focus on the things that are more important to you?

Landscaper Restroom

So how exactly are we the laughing stock? At Sierra, we have taken this a step further.  We have our own restrooms which we provide for our teams while working at your property. It is not uncommon to see one of our units being towed through town on a trailer. These are very often the topic of conversation, and many find it humorous. Do not worry though they are professionally serviced just like the rental units. Just in case you are envisioning your experience at that last music festival you attended. You know what is not humorous though, that so many contractors do not even think about this until one of the above happens. What message does that send?

So if you see one of our branded "lounges" rolling down main street, have a laugh. It's OK, I laugh at it sometimes too. Rest assured though that what you are seeing isn't just a plastic box rolling down the street. It is a company culture, it is homeowner peace of mind, it is a better way of elevating the industry, it's the way we roll.

Thanks for reading!
