If you are reading this fresh off the presses, odds are you are looking out your window and wondering when spring will be here. That is because we just had a very unusual snow storm that buried our area in nearly 3 feet of snow. This is after a relatively mild winter that was looking more and more like spring was coming early.

Snow covered fireplace

As I write this blog I have no window to look out of. I am actually about a mile back in the woods perched up against a relic of a fireplace from a time long ago when the area was used for another purpose. I look around, aside from the tracks of my snow shoes I see no sign of human life. A few deer prints, and I did cross what looked like signs of a bear relocating to a new hibernation spot.

This this is my safe place. Not necessarily where I am specifically, but nature in general. I hear no traffic, I see no screens, I feel no distractions. Aside from the notepad I write on, it is just me and my snow shoes and the wilderness. I feel calm, I feel rejuvenated, and I feel like I am ready for anything my day will throw at me.

Nature has always been my happy place. A place where I go to disconnect and think. I have found much joy in my life sharing this with others and introducing them to similar feelings. It’s safe to say that I believe nature changes lives.

I feel so strongly about this that years ago I decided that my company needed to follow a similar path and dedicate it’s efforts to bringing people closer to nature. In actuality, what we do is bring nature to them by creating well planned environments designed to instill peace of mind and clear mental health. This is why we largely focus on the use of natural materials and execution in a manner that is designed to be respectful to, and inspired by the natural surroundings.

Garden Path

A garden path reveals new wonders every day.

This approach gives our clients an experience that is ever changing. With each season and journey, a new element is realized. A new plant that has volunteered its placement in the landscape, some moss that has decided to accent the natural patio, or a family of frogs that decided to make the water feature their new home. There is always something new for all ages to explore that keeps the users interested and coming back.

In 2020, we developed our trademarked Nara System. Nara consists of several elements, methodologies, and sustainable approaches to address common problems in the Landscape Design world. Nara ensures that our features stand the test of time, are respectful to their surroundings, and most importantly draw deeply from natural inspiration to help the user experience peace. With all the increased distraction in our world today… the screens, the video conferences, the home quarantines, the lack of social interaction… there has never been a time where this has been needed more. Record breaking numbers of people took to outdoor recreation in our parks and forests last year. When they can’t get to nature the next best option is to bring nature to them. A water feature to add movement and audible excitement. A native plant design to add visual interest and attract wildlife. A new hardscape feature to create the room to be able to comfortably enjoy the outdoor surroundings.

This theme will continue to grow and become a household item. To quote Mickey from the movie Goonies; “It’s our time.” How can we make this your time too?
