When things slide sideways, break the glass!
We have all heard the expression listen to your gut. Very often our instincts know how to protect us best. Sometimes however we try to distract ourselves from those thoughts by attempting to convince our brains that we haven't explored all the options. At times we even believe we are magicians capable of changing situations that are not meant to be changed.
What I am specifically talking about here is relationships. After all isn't life really just about relationships? A mutual exchange of value. Take the word value for what it is. It could mean something different to every person. A reciprocal exchange of something we want for something we are willing to let go of. On paper it sounds easy. What do you do though when things don't go according to plan?
Very often we attempt to stay in our lane just a little longer than we should. Change is hard for most of us. The end result though is that very often we find ourselves at the back of the line we worked so hard to get in front of initially. Personally, for me, this is a life long challenge. I find as I mature and grow as a person my ability to make "the right decision" becomes more complex, though rational thought which expedites the decision becomes more efficient. I suppose it is the life lessons leading up these moments and experiences which created the framework. My crux is the balance (I strongly dislike that term) of family, business, and personal time allocation. Though I've gotten a lot better at it, the reality remains the same... If I just had more time!
The thing is we do not have more time. We are in the moment and that moment will pass. Certainly, more moments and experiences will come. How can we make the most of each experience to grow and stay ahead of the line. By enlarge we surround ourselves with positive and winning personalities. Our circles of influence are supportive and remain close to us. Though in life we must participate in a larger circle in order to work within the world of our time.
This week's video is all about relationships and trust. We have been fortunate to be given the opportunity to not only have creative freedom, but also a beautiful setting to get to spread our wings this summer. This opportunity came to light when a relationship with another landscape contractor did not go according to plan. Much like I mentioned above, the signs were there. The clues indicating the likelihood of success, or lack of becoming more obvious. Like many, the challenge becomes how long do we stay in our lane?
The unfortunate situation is that the conversation went on just a little too long initially. However, if that had not been the case it is extremely unlikely that the life changing transformation taking place would have happened. Instead a mediocre result would have created an average experience, with normal problems. That doesn't sound exciting does it. Sometimes in life we need to weather the storm to see the rainbow at the end.
