3 Outdoor Living Features That Will Make Your Home More Appealing In 2021

What homebuyers are looking for in Sparta, NJ, to increase their quality of life.

By now I’m sure you are familiar with the video conferencing software Zoom.

I would also venture to say that most of you have heard of a “Zoom Room”, a dedicated space to perform online meetings in your home, and possibly have even looked into building one in your own home. With all this increased screen time taking place in our homes, another trend has developed during 2020 and will continue to grow in 2021. The desire for large outdoor spaces that allow the users to disconnect and recharge after a long day in the (home) office has increased dramatically. That number would be a 41% increase in Outdoor Living according to a Zillow survey. The number one search term on Zillow in 2020 was “Pool”, I imagine that is not a surprise.

Here are some notable ways that homeowners will increase their quality of life and increase the attractiveness of their homes in 2021. Additionally, these added outdoor features will allow for faster real estate transactions, greater return on investment, and a greater ability to enjoy the increased time we are all spending at home.

1)      Swimming Pool or Water Feature – The most popular features right now in the outdoor living space involve water. It’s no surprise to those that have been bit by the water bug. Whether it is a safe place for the children to play and cool off and get away from screen time, or a restful place to sit back with a cup of tea and read a book while the nearby pond-less waterfall provides the music of nature. The water bug is contagious, and in 2021 these will be the most sought after features to provide a home sanctuary built to replace your displaced vacation plans.

2)      Patio and Outdoor Kitchen – The second most valuable outdoor improvement in 2021 will be Patios and Outdoor Kitchens. These areas are consistently in the top 3 most important home features 87% of buyers are looking for since the beginning of 2020. Created to give homeowners a new way to use their homes and relax, these spaces will be an extension of the home which allow for family gathering and socially distanced entertaining. Pavilions and Fireplaces are also commonly added to further expand the usability of their backyards.

3)      Curb Appeal – With all the increased time spent at home, the average yard is looking better than ever. Homeowners are looking for ways to get out of the home, and many have picked up gardening as a new hobby.  Curb appeal ranks as a top priority for 85% of homebuyers. Regular care is important, but even more impactful is a well-planned Landscape Design. Landscape Lighting is another great way to extend the home’s appeal into the nighttime and also increase home security.

How we use our properties and spend our days will forever be different. These features are great ways to enhance the quality of those days. With the increased interest from home buyers, these added features will be sure to carry a greater return on investment than they ever have before.
